There was great excitement on Monday when we arrived back at school - our pump track was finally finished! Mike from Track Build has been so faithful in following through the process and making sure we finally got it complete. Mike’s workmanship and dedication has been outstanding. So we are learning how to negotiate the berms (steep corners), fly over the rollers (the bumps in the middle) and go with the flow. Classes over the next two weeks will take opportunities to practice riding the bikes around the track. Once we are confident that children know what they are up to, we will open the track to wheels at morning interval and lunch. We will keep you posted on when this will happen.
Term 3 also brings us closer to the Board of Trustee elections. This will be held near the end of the term. Serving by being on the board is a very valuable role to play in our school community. Boards of Trustees govern the school- they make sure that everything that needs to be done is done ethically, legally and as well as possible, in the best interest of all students. The role does involve attending 2 meetings a term with reading beforehand to prepare for the meeting. If you are interested in stepping up into this role, Paresh Patel (our current Board chair) or myself would love to chat with you.
Next week, Tuesday and Wednesday brings an opportunity for whānau and teachers to meet around student progress. Please make sure you book in for a 10 minute interview where more information can be shared on how school is going for your tamariki. This is a great time of sharing for all. Tamariki are welcome to come along to the interview and contribute as well. To prepare for the interviews, make sure you have read the reports that came home at the end of the term and have some comments to share. Teachers will update the whānau section of these following the interview and you will receive a colour, signed copy at the end of week 3.

It has been a joy to return to some of the practices we have as a community that remind us of how important our faith is in the function of our school. One practice we are reigniting this term is a weekly karakia/ prayer service. We have had a chance to reflect on how we can make our time together in prayer more effective and meaningful. Previously it was the senior student’s responsibility to lead karakia but we believe all tamariki can be leaders and often learn more when they are active participants in practices that reinforce their faith. Every Friday each class will have an opportunity to lead karakia starting at 9am in the hall. Younger students can be supported by older students (tuakana/ teina) to help them be successful. I’m sure these will be special times as we pray and worship together. Parents are welcome to slip into the back of the hall and join us at these times. Please remember to mask up.
Week 1 R 12
Week 2 R 1
Week 3 Powhiri- no school karakia.
Week 4 R 5

Week 6 R 7
Week 7 R 11

Gardener of the Day
Today in the Garden Olivia was away so Mr Sa was in the garden. We started looking outside for jobs- Leya, Dhrumil and I were going to the hall getting the bamboo sticks and string to fix up a damaged fence. Flynn, Ninor And Rory were collecting and cleaning up the compost, while Cahal Toby and Marlon were weeding on the corner. Lydia, Parina and Daniel were weeding on the other side of the garden. Something I enjoyed doing was helping people fix the garden up. We also had a weta funeral. Toby, Cahal and Marlon organized this and prayed for him. Next time I hope we will be careful of standing in the plants.

Chef of the Day
Today in the kitchen we made kumara coins with bonfire mayo. We made it by slicing some kumara from our garden into small sized circles, then we divided it into 2 baking trays. After that we put some salt and oil into the trays, then we had to use our hands to spread out the oil over the kumara. We then spread the coins (circle kumara) into 1 layer, then baked it for 10 minutes and then flip the coins and bake for another 10-15 minutes until golden.
