You will be aware that all of New Zealand (with the exception of Auckland) is moving to Alert Level 2 from midnight tonight. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
Return to School: We are really looking forward to welcoming students back onsite on Thursday morning, 9 September. Tomorrow (Wednesday) staff will be at school preparing for re-opening to all on Thursday so there will be no live zoom meetings but learning from home activities will be on your child’s google classroom as usual.
Our focus will again be on wellbeing and a successful transition back into school. Once they are settled in, we will focus on re-engaging them in learning.
Our staff will continue to
be welcoming, responsive, and inclusive
reconfirm behaviours and expectations specific to their class and our school
provide a structured and predictable environment with clear rules and routines
check in with students about how they are feeling
keep instructions simple, break tasks into small chunks, allow extra processing time, and provide simplified versions of the curriculum
be back at school and the delivery mode will be face to face back in classrooms
Health and Safety: We continue to work to ensure all of the required safety precautions for Alert Level 2 are in place this includes following all the recommendations from the public health experts. This means we will regularly clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, encourage everyone to frequently wash their hands and cough and sneeze into their elbow.
Physical Distancing: While physical distancing is not a requirement in schools, we will be doing our best to keep students from congregating in very large numbers and keeping spaces well-ventilated.
Face Coverings: Face coverings are not required to be worn in school. The decision to wear a face covering is up to you and your whānau, whatever your decision it will be respected.
Drop Off and Pick Up: We will have the same drop off and pick up arrangements as used previously. See below for further detail.
Return of Devices:If your child was provided with a school chrome book please ensure this is returned to the school office on Thursday morning. Be sure your child’s name is clearly written on box or bag the device is in - this will help us to check the devices back into our system.
Summary: A summary of what Alert Level 2 looks like at Holy Cross can be found at the bottom of this communication- please review these for yourselves and with your children- as these familiar practices and routines will help address any worries they may have.
Finally, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or me if there is something you or your child need assistance with. From all of the staff- thank you for your support, kindness and encouragement.
