As each day unfolds I try to be mindful of those around me and be present to the moment; pausing at times to notice my surroundings, giving thanks for the many blessings I receive and offer a quiet thought or prayer for someone in need. Last night I walked up the zigzag at the end of Athens Street and paused at the top to enjoy the beautiful sunset as I looked down on Miramar.
I endeavour each day to learn something new, or reflect on my learning or new understandings.
In my office, I have a picture of some of our students around which I have written key words and phrases that guide my actions, some of these include: celebrate learning and be joyful; link learning to real-life authentic contexts; track learning to set next steps, know they learner...engage thy learner; think about what matters most- what will make the biggest difference; inspire a love of learning…
We are all given the opportunity to make a difference to others. Each morning, at the gate I see so many wonderful examples of students and adults, Living the Holy Cross Way. This week I would especially like to encourage an awareness of others. We might show this by holding open a gate, greeting those we meet or see and stopping to talk…. These may seem like small actions but they make a big difference.
Have a wonderful week everyone.
“God looked at everything he had made and was very pleased.” Genesis
The importance of caring for our world is something for us to consider each and every day. It will remain a theme in our communications with you throughout the year. The letter from Pope Francis, Laudato Si’, presents us with an invitation, a challenge, to show love for the world and love for our neighbour. This ties in beautifully with one of our school initiatives, “Living the Holy Cross WAY”; what does this mean to us and how we will accept this challenge?
The following prayer was published in Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’.
It is for all who believe in God who is the all-powerful Creator. We invite you to read this prayer and consider all the opportunities we have to care for our earth and each other.
A prayer for our earth
All powerful God,
you are present in the universe
and in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.
Pour out upon us the power of your love,
that we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with your peace, that we may live
as brothers and sisters, harming no one.
O God of the poor,
help us to rescue the abandoned
and forgotten of this earth,
so precious in your eyes.
Bring healing to our lives,
that we may protect the world and not prey on it,
that we may sow beauty,
not pollution and destruction.
Touch the hearts
of those who look only for gain
at the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,
to be filled with awe and contemplation,
to recognize that we are profoundly united
with every creature
as we journey towards your infinite light.
We thank you for being with us each day.
Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle,
for justice, love and peace.

In today’s session we made Green and Cheese Fritters with Aleksandra. I was one of the people that finely chopped the vegetables and set up the tables. I think that sugar with the fritters would be fantastic and hope I can eat all of the fritters. Thanks to Jude for helping us to bake the fritters. Jude is Maggie's grandmother and we hope we can see her again.
Gardener of the Day- Charles
Today in the Garden we learnt to grow new plants. This is called propagation. I learned that you can grow plants in different ways - by cutting, by runners and seeds. Today we turned the compost and we pulled weeds. We made some cuttings by cutting the stem and then we put them into the pumice mix. Now we will wait. Thank you Cilla for your help in the garden today too.
