All Saints and All Souls
For Monday morning prayers, we gathered together as a school to acknowledge All Saints Day and All Souls Day. We remembered and honoured members of our families and communities who have passed away. The names of many of these significant people are in a basket in the school foyer. They remain in our thoughts and prayers. If you would like to add a name to this basket please feel free to do so. Many students have also been thinking about Saints that have inspired them, did you know that New Zealand is close to getting its very own Saint?
In December 2016, Pope Franics declared the founder of the Sisters of Compassion, Suzanne Aubert ‘Venerable’ and this is an important milestone on the path to becoming a Saint. Many people are now researching the impact she has had and continues to have on their lives. The next step will be that she is declared 'Blessed' before finally being proclaimed as a Saint.
Students from Holy Cross often visit the Home of Compassion chapel where she now rests. This is a very special and sacred place. We invite you to remember Sister Aubert in your prayers on her journey to Sainthood as one of New Zealand's most inspiring woman of faith.

Happy Birthday to Nicolas and Meisha. We hope you have a wonderful birhtday!

This week in Garden To Table, Nafira was the Chef.
Nafira explains how he helped make vegetable lettuce cups.
" We cut the ingredients, the ingredients were: onion, ginger, garlic, mushrooms, zucchini and carrots. We then stir fried the vegetables and added the sauces which were Hoisin Sauce, Sesame Oil and Soy Sauce. We washed the lettuce leaves and dried them in a lettuce spinner. We placed the vegetables on top of each lettuce leaf. I like cutting the garlic and zucchini, I thnk it smells nice and I will definitely make this dish again".
Anastasia was Gardener of the Day. She explained what happened in the garden.
"In the garden we did a Spring challenge. One group watered the garden because it was so dry. One group had to weed the garden and remove the weeds. One group had to look for litter. I was in the weeding group, when we were cutting the grass it was like giving Mother Nature a big hair cut! We put the grass clippings in to a big bucket so later we can make mulch out of it and use it for the garden to keep the soil moist. The last group made a big netting cover for the garden so the birds cannot get in and eat the strawberries".
We would like to share some photos of the Eastern Zones athletics. Further details will follow next week with results and more photos.
