Change happens all around us all of the time. We want to teach your tamariki/ children well and equip them to thrive in a world that is rapidly changing around them.To help meet those changes the Ministry of Education is in the midst of a 6 year project to refresh the New Zealand Curriculum- Te Mātaiaho.
Te Mātaiaho | The refreshed curriculum will support students to experience success in their learning. It will give practical effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and will be inclusive, clear about the learning that matters, and easy to use from year 0 to year 13. The refreshed curriculum content is being developed and released in phases, and schools and kura will have until the beginning of 2027 to start using the fully refreshed curriculum. From https://curriculumrefresh.education.govt.nz/ |
The extra Teacher Only days we are having both this year and in 2024 will help us as staff to learn about Te Mātaiaho- the refreshed curriculum. We appreciated having the space on Monday to meet with teachers from St Anthony’s and St Patrick's Primary, schools from the Holy Trinity Parish. We did our learning together, looking at the structure of Te Mātaiaho led by Matua Tala and also dipped into Maths with the help of Sarah Thomas from Cognition- a Professional Learning provider who has been working with kaiako/ teachers at Holy Cross. .
The Ministry of Education’s timeline is that we are using the refreshed parts of Maths and Literacy in 2024 so lots of learning for us to do.
Special Character
Our final instalment on the outcome of our Special Character Review showcases actions and recommendations we can take as a kura/school. An immediate need we have with Nik Solia moving on, is someone who is able to be our Director of Religious Studies- an important role to help us achieve these recommendations and support the Special Character aspects of our school. Please pray that we can find someone who is able to fulfil this role.

On Wednesday Holy Cross school athletes competed in the Eastern Zone athletics. There were many schools there and plenty of talent. I noticed as I was competing there were a lot of good sportsmanship. Holy Cross competed hard, producing some good results. MINI POLO
On Fridays we play mini polo at Kilbirnie swimming pools. We play against other school teams. We have now played 4 games so far- we lost our first one but have learnt from that game and now manage to win by a fair margin in our other games. We like being a goalie and swimming for the ball. We often pass the ball around the goal area so that each of us has a chance to score a goal. We really like playing this sport- can't wait till our next game!

Chef of the day - Aarav
Today in the kitchen we made Broccoli and Cauliflower cheese. We also did multiple jobs like cutting and cleaning the boards. George and Hosanna also did the vacuuming.

Wow! What an incredible event! We hope you and your whanau enjoyed the Garage Sale Fundraiser brought to you by our wonderful Parents’ Group committee. Thank you to all that contributed either with donations, volunteering time, facepainting, shopping for items, attending the event or donating baking.
A BIG thank you to all our incredible helpers not only on the day but throughout the week setting up and sorting – from parents’ to partners who were ‘booked in’ to help to staff and members of our community – you have all been incredible and the reason for a successful event. A very special mention to all our beautiful little helpers – Room 8 students, Māia, Hemi, Ishaani, Sahaan, Hope, Zac, Rohan, Amelia, Amalia, Asher, Nora and Daniel and all the other Tamariki who helped through the week and on the day. Great work!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our incredible Parents’ Group team who, out of kindness and love for our school made this happen. In particular: Malisha, Lucy, Sarah, Rachel, Lavinia, Karin, Cat, Tala, Angela, Sheryl and Katherine who worked many hours behind the scenes to sort, organise, promote and coordinate.
Thank you to Lowe & Co for their amazing sign posting throughout Miramar and Countdown Kilbirnie for their $50 voucher.
Events such as this are a great way to bring our school and local community together. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to give to those in need with remaining items being donated to local charities.
We raised an incredible $4,147.60 which we will be working with the school to put towards upgrades of the school hall for our Tamariki to enjoy.
Ngā mihi nui,
Didi
